Dr. Brian Coates has lived in Greensboro for most of his life and is passionate about dentistry and helping his patients feel great about their smiles. As Dr. Coates says, “The best thing about my job is changing how people see themselves by improving their smiles.
After graduating from Page High School and UNC – Chapel Hill, Dr. Coates obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1998. After that, he continued his education by completing the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at UNC – Chapel Hill. After practicing in Charlotte, NC for several years Dr. Coates moved his family back to Greensboro. He now lives a couple miles from where he grew up with his wife and two children.
Serving the community
Dr. Coates previously served as President of the Guilford County Dental Society. In his five years of service on the Executive Committee of the GCDS, Dr. Coates helped coordinate the donation of $25,000 to open a volunteer dental clinic on Friendly Avenue in Greensboro, as well as a $5,000 donation to update the healthcare exhibit at the Greensboro Children’s Museum. In addition, he volunteers his time at the Guilford Dental Clinic, where he provides dental services to under-served populations in the county. In 2015, Dr. Coates was recognized as a Fellow in the International College of Dentists, a worldwide organization that recognizes dentists’ outstanding achievements, service, and dedication to advancing dentistry.
