So, it is our great pleasure to add another exciting treatment capability to our mix of patient-focused offerings!
The S.M.A.R.T.™ approach to bone grafting
The S.M.A.R.T.™ technique is revolutionizing the way bone graft surgery is performed at the dentist’s and oral surgeon’s office. And we at Triad Dentistry are among the select practitioners in the Piedmont Triad, Tarheel State and beyond to be trained and equipped to offer this innovative treatment option.
S.M.A.R.T.™ stands for the “Subperiosteal Minimally-Invasive Aesthetic Ridge Augmentation.” While that sounds like a mouthful, it simply means that we use special surgical techniques and instrumentation to conservatively reconstruct tissue in the jawbone.
Formerly, complex cases had limited treatment options. Grafting treatment was completed using bone blocks from the hip or jaws. Today, with the S.M.A.R.T.™ technique, our uniquely qualified team can treat even challenging cases of bone loss with a straightforward office procedure. The process is similar to laparoscopic surgery, in that only small incisions are necessary. This alternative does not incorporate invasive or elaborate techniques to lift the gums, or those procedures that involve the use of membranes, titanium meshes, or screws.
Developed by a master clinician and academic, Dr. Ernesto Lee, the S.M.A.R.T.™ method provides many advantages to patients. They include:
- Superior bone regeneration
- Predictable outcomes
- Demonstrated management of challenging and involved cases
- Simplified and efficient approach to conventional Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR)
- Only one surgical site is required (no need for a second “donor” site)
- Treatment is associated with less pain
- Swelling is minimized
- A reduced risk of complications
- Substantially decreased recovery time and downtime
- Minimal surgical risk
- Decreased risk of infection
- Faster healing than traditional procedures
Additionally, bone grafting with S.M.A.R.T.™ minimally-invasive techniques may be appropriate for patients with existing bone loss around the implant. Accordingly, we can predictably, comfortably, and safely restore bone and preserve implant-supported restorations. In fact, this innovative method is the only patented approach to conservatively regenerating lost bone with both a documented track record of clinical excellence, and a large body of solid scientific evidence in peer-reviewed journals and publications.
