Dental Bridges

Patients have a few options available to them when it comes to restoring their smiles after natural tooth loss. Three primary cosmetic treatments are available to replace missing teeth, including dental bridges, dental implants, and partial dentures. All are viable options for many, but some patients may have specific needs and requirements that make one alternative the best choice. Patients who want a temporary and removable restoration may opt for a partial denture, while patients desiring a long-term solution that is permanent and requires less care may consider dental implants instead. Dental bridges are a wonderful alternative as well.

Dental bridges are cosmetic restorations that are made of porcelain. They are constructed of dental crowns and pontics, also known as false teeth. The pontics are fused to the dental crowns, and the crowns are placed on the teeth adjacent to the space for support. These teeth are prepared by removing some of the enamel to allow the crowns to be bonded to the teeth. When properly maintained, dental bridges can last several years.

Many patients may find that dental bridges are the best solution for them. Some patients may not have sufficient bone structure available to have dental implants placed, and some patients are strongly averse to having a removable restoration in their smile. A dental bridge is a wonderful solution.

Not everyone's dental situation is the same, and Dr. Hatcher will work with patients to ensure that they get the best solution to their dental care needs. When teeth are missing, it is important to address the problem as soon as possible to avoid the shifting of teeth and to improve biting, chewing, and speaking efficiency. Patients can even use a temporary solution such as a partial denture until they have decided on a more permanent solution to the situation, such as a dental bridge or dental implant. During the initial consultation appointment and examination, patients can speak with Dr. Hatcher to learn more about which restoration best fits their needs, their budget, and their lifestyle.
