What type of sedation is used by our team at Triad Dentistry?
We know that visiting the dentist can be scary for both adults and children. This is why we work with families to discuss the possibility of undergoing sedation to get the treatment done with no pain and discomfort. We offer a few different ways to put patients at ease for their upcoming dental visit. We may suggest any of the following options with parents and children:
- Nitrous oxide. Best known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is administered through the nose and provides odorless gas that almost immediately calms the mind and patient. It can be reversed quickly with the administration of oxygen when the dental treatments are completed.
- Oral conscious sedation. With the use of a pharmaceutical prescription taken prior to arriving at the office, patients can stay awake during their treatment but feel very much at ease. Patients cannot drive with oral conscious sedation and must arrange transportation.
- IV sedation. Alternatively, those undergoing more advanced or invasive treatments may opt for IV sedation, which puts a patient under for their treatment and eliminates any discomfort or fears patients might have about their upcoming visit to the dentist’s chair.
