Dental fears are nothing new to Dr. Steven L. Hatcher of Greensboro, NC. He understands that many patients, young and old, male and female, may experience anxiety around visiting the dentist, even for the simplest treatments such as cleanings and examinations. He understands that many patients have had negative experiences in the dental chair and link that chair to pain and discomfort. He understands that some patients are very nervous about having others in their personal space, or patients with strong gag reflexes find dental treatments to be very stressful and uncomfortable. This is why Dr. Steven L. Hatcher encourages patients to learn more about sedation dentistry, which can help make dental visits a more pleasurable experience for all.
Our patients have access to a variety of sedation methods. We provide:
Inhalation sedation is best for patients with mild anxieties; moderate anxieties may benefit more from oral conscious sedation, an oral sedative given before the appointment that is effective for several hours. However, patients with severe anxieties may prefer IV sedation. IV sedation is administered directly into the bloodstream to help ease nervousness and provide patients with a deeper sedation. Some patients fall asleep during their procedure with IV sedation, and this is a great method for those who need to get through very long treatments or more invasive services.
Dr. Steven L. Hatcher can use IV sedation for very fearful patients, and can discuss with individuals the other methods if patients desire to use them. He wants to ensure all patients are part of the decision-making process when it comes to their dental health and wellness and how their visits are handled. Patients should be open with their dentist and should not feel embarrassed to ask for sedation during their dental visits, as it can help tremendously with their dental care.
