What Greensboro patients can expect with the tooth implant process
Posted By Dr. Steven Hatcher
Missing teeth have a lasting impact. Whether the teeth have been lost to decay, disease, or injury, it can affect appearance, self-esteem, and oral health. If you are missing teeth, you may benefit from tooth implants. Implants closely mimic your natural tooth, restoring form and function to the smile. Many Greensboro patients are opting for tooth implants over other restorations.
What are tooth implants?
Tooth implants replace the root lost by a missing tooth. If you choose this restoration, here is what you can expect before, during, and after your procedure.
During your consultation, we can determine if you are a candidate for tooth implants. Ideal candidates will have good oral health and sufficient jawbone structure for support of the implant. If there is bone degeneration, patients may still be a candidate after a bone graft procedure. If we determine you are a candidate for implants, scans are taken to map out proper placement.
The implant procedure is performed in-office under local anesthetic. The mouth will be disinfected and numbed prior to placing the implant into the jaw. Once the implant has been placed, the hole will be closed and it will be left to heal for several months. During the healing process, the jawbone will fuse around the implant to become a secure support for a dental prosthetic. A temporary restoration can be used during this time. Once healing is complete, patients will return for their permanent restoration.
Once the healing is complete and the final restoration is placed, you will be able to enjoy a complete rejuvenated smile that looks and feels natural. There is no special care for dental implants, simply practice proper oral hygiene with routine dental visits.
